Namibia Splendour

Day 1

On arrival at the Windhoek Airport you will be met by one of our representatives and transferred to Namibia’s Capital City, Windhoek. Today you will also meet your tour guide, and time permitting you can explore the city with your guide.
Overnight at AVANI WINDHOEK HOTEL including breakfast.
A brief tour of the city is included, TIME PERMITTING.
Lunch and Dinner are for your own account.

Day 2

Breakfast at the Hotel and then you depart south to the Kalahari Desert. Arrival at the Intu Afrika Kalahari Game Reserve in time for lunch. In the afternoon you will join a nature drive in open 4×4 vehicle (included).
Although the Kalahari is often called a desert, it is not a true desert. Deserts are defined as being areas of land receiving less then 25 mm of rain per annum – The Kalahari receives much more than this – no less than 100 mm on average.
Overnight at INTU AFRIKA GAME RESERVE (may be either Zebra Lodge, Suricate Tented Lodge, OR Camelthorn Lodge) / similar including lunch, dinner and breakfast, and the Afternoon Sundowner drive.

Day 3

This morning you will join a guided Bushman walk at Intu Afrika (included), before you depart for the Namib Desert – considered to be the oldest desert in the world! The remainder of the day will be at leisure.
Overnight at SOSSUSVLEI LODGE / similar including dinner and breakfast.
Lunch will be included en route.

Day 4

This morning your guide will conduct an early morning excursion along the path of the ancient Tsauchab River into the Namib Sand Sea including a visit to the famed Sossusvlei, Dune 45 and Deadvlei. Many visitors to Namibia say that no part of the desert is more stunning than Sossusvlei, with its monumentally high dunes, the shadows of their sinuous crests continually changing as the day waxes and wanes. Gigantic star-shaped mountains of sand, the highest estimated at 325 m. The warm tints of the sand, ranging from pale apricot to brick orange and deep red, contrast vividly with the dazzling white surfaces of the deflationary clay pans at some of their bases.
You will also visit Sesriem Canyon, a small yet picturesque canyon carved over millions of years into the Tschaub River.

Day 5

Departing from the central Namib Region today’s route continues in a northerly direction along the eastern boundary of the Namib Naukluft Park passing through the small settlement of Solitaire on route to the Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons. Continue across the “gravel plains” of the Namib Desert on route towards Namibia’s premier coastal resort town, Swakopmund.
Excursions on route will be included to the erosional feature of the “Moon Valley” and to Namibia’s ancient plant species, the “Welwitschia mirabilis”.
Late afternoon arrival and overnight at HANSA HOTEL / similar including breakfast.
A picnic lunch is included on route.
Dinner tonight will be at a local restaurant and will be for the clients own account.

Day 6

After breakfast proceed to Walvis Bay to participate in a lovely marine cruise (included). On this fantastic cruise enjoy the refreshing sea breeze while taking in the amazing views of the coastline and harbour and interacting with a variety of marine and birdlife. Relax and indulge in some fresh oysters and sparkling wine on board.
Return to the Walvis Bay Yacht Club in the late morning, and proceed on the Sandwich Harbour 4×4 Excursion (included).
Then your excursion continues with the afternoon 4×4 Sandwich Harbour Tour – Here, giant sand dunes run straight into the ocean, creating breathtaking sceneries and unique landscapes, just waiting to be discovered!
Return to Swakopmund in the late afternoon.
Walvis Bay is Namibia’s largest commercial harbour, and the Walvis Bay Lagoon is protected under the RAMSAR Convention as an important wetland. The lagoon is renowned for its seasonal abundance of both the Greater and Lesser Flamingo species.

When you return back to Swakopmund in the latish afternoon you will be at leisure to explore Namibia’s premier coastal resort town, Swakopmund. Today this quaint town nestled between desert and ocean is enhanced by lush green lawns, palm trees and carefully tended gardens. There is a good selection of restaurants and coffee shops selling traditional German cakes and pastries, while the coastline and the desert respectively offer many options for adventure or relaxation.

Day 7

Early morning departure from Swakopmund in a northerly direction, through the National West Coast Recreational Area towards the fishing town of Henties Bay. Leaving the coast continue in an easterly direction crossing the “gravel plains” towards the abandoned mining town of Uis, passing Namibia’s highest Mountain Range, The Brandberg.
Early afternoon arrival and overnight at TWYFELFONTEIN COUNTRY LODGE / similar including dinner and breakfast.
Lunch today is for the clients own account.

Twyfelfontein is one of the richest areas of rock engravings and Bushmen paintings in Namibia. A guided walking excursion will be conducted to some of the engraving sites. You will also see interesting geological features in the area such as the Burnt Mountain and the dolomite columns known as the “Organ Pipes”.

Day 8

Early wake-up call and breakfast. Departing from Twyfelfontein continue towards Outjo for lunch. On the way you will visit the Petrified Forest, with approximately 50 examples of petrified trees dating back some 260 million years. After lunch we then visit the Otjikandero Himba Village OR the Omapaha Himba Village (see further below for full description), before we continue towards the small town of Outjo, and then onwards for an afternoon arrival at TALENI ETOSHA VILLAGE / similar, situated outside the Etosha National Park, on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.

PLEASE NOTE: The park and its resorts’ gates strictly open at sunrise and close at sunset.

Day 9

Today you will explore Etosha National Park open 4×4 game drive vehicle (included) for a full day.
The park has recorded over 114 mammal species, 350 bird species and 21 different vegetation types. The most common plains game species encountered include; Burchell’s Zebra, Springbok, Black– Faced Impala, Blue Wildebeest, Gemsbok / Oryx antelope, Giraffe and Red Hartebeest. The Etosha National Park also boasts healthy populations of Lion, Elephant and Black Rhino. While in the park a visit will be included to the Etosha Pan or the “Great White Place”.
Packed lunch or lunch at one of the resorts inside the park will be included.
Return to TALENI ETOSHA VILLAGE / similar for overnight including dinner and breakfast.

Day 10

Departing from the Etosha National Park today’s journey follows the main route south through the country via the towns of Outjo and on to Otjiwarongo and Okahandja.
You overnight just outside Windhoek at Naankuse Lodge.
Overnight at N/A’ANKUSE LODGE / similar including dinner and breakfast. An afternoon activity as offered by the lodge will also be included.
Lunch / Packed lunch will also be included today.

Day 11

Today marks the end of your visit to Namibia.  Your guide will take you to the international airport in time to meet your departing flight.
